Summed Up
Recently, I provided feedback to the organizers of a certain event because it lacked some key elements of direction and organization, resulting in frustration for many of us who have been to the event before. Although it was moving and beautiful as always, it could have been better.
The feedback was well received, possibly because it included an offer to help solve the problem for next year's event.
I cc'd a friend on the email, just to keep him in the loop. He replied that it was an appropriate mix of subtle snarkiness and cheerful saccharine.
That about sums me up, don't you think?

I applaud you for your involvement in scouting. I think it is a great organization and will benefit your young men immensely, especially as they advance through the program. I hope they will crossover into Boy Scouting as this is where I saw my own son's, especially my oldest, blossom into insightful, strong, compassionate leaders.
Don't be too hard on the chair of this event. We all have our ceilings and maybe this person is at their's. I commend you for coming along side and offering help. Who knows, maybe you'll be leading this event next year.
Keep up the good work! Go Den 5!!
Keith, if there's one thing I've learned over the years as a volunteer and as a volunteer coordinator is to not speak up until I have specific suggestions and am willing to step in where needed. Feedback was gentle, and I offered to help disseminate information for next year's event.
This is one of those cyclical things - leaders who've done it for years tend to forget that new folks don't know what to do. It's a big challenge with scout families, as I'm sure you know.
This is why good ole Pack 57 is so excited that I will have a first grader (Ryan) right after Jake bridges to boy scouts :)
