44 Down, 4 to go

This is just a quick post to call attention to the fact that Peter Hoogenboom is in Idaho, the 44th state on his Dream Tour of the 48 lower contintental states.

Peter has been riding (and his wife, Pat, has been driving) since mid-March. Through the late spring snowfall in Utah, to the heat and humidity of the midwest over the summer, and through the cold snowy Rockies in Montana. An average of 60 miles each riding day. Around big cities and through towns so small Google Maps can't even plot them.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Peter at a few diabetes events this summer, working to spread the word about The Bayer Dream Fund. He amazes me. And it's not just the physical feat of biking nearly 10,000 miles, but that he and his wife are taking seven months out of their life - away from their home, their jobs, their dogs - seven months on the road to prove a point. Wearing those snazzy Bayer colors, driving the ever-so-stylish Dream Machine, stopping and talking about diabetes with anyone who asks what they're up to, setting one incredible example and sharing a very important message.

People with diabetes can do amazing things.

Do me a favor, dear reader, and go visit Peter's website and leave a comment in his guestbook. If you've ever had to explain what you can and can't do to someone whose only experience with diabetes is their ailing Aunt Edna and her missing toes... well, you know how great it is to have someone like Peter out there spreading the word.

Now go give him some love!
